A Slight Word on the Writing

Hello everyone. This is your pilot speaking....and you may now abandon ship. Either way, I hope you are enjoying the blog. This has really been fun for me and I am very glad that blogger makes it a lot easier for me to post all of this. Otherwise I'd need a hosting area, html skills, and about double the time that I have now.

So, I've been thinking about the whole story line of the thing. I like stories, and I like writing them. But I've never been the best at the whole creative thing. I guess it just isn't really my thing. Now, seeing a good story and stealing it....that I am good at. And really it's just complimenting the author. Though I would check the copy writes. Even in these reports I've stolen a couple good one liners from the other ones that I've read. Yeah, like I said, creative stuff....yeah, not my best thing. And likewise, I value this above everything else in basically anything: writing, stories, video games, dates, etc. (Ok, those are honestly the only 3 things that I think about and notice my lacking in)

I value the good story. The ones that go along normally, then get you with a twist. The ones where you get the chills are winners. You only need that once. These stories can't be told in just an hour or two. You need more than that. Ok, I've just been watching Red vs. Blue. Yeah, there's alot of language that I don't like, and dirty jokes on the occasion, but minus those(If you get to season 2) then it get's pretty funny. Matches my personality, anyway. So, for the first couple seasons it was just go along silly stuff. When an actual story was decided on, I couldn't say, I've only watched it for the last couple days and I never paid much more attention than that. In the new series, it's got a backstory. Still funny, but it's got stuff going on behind it. It really takes quite a while to develop these things, and only for a couple new thrills. Yeah, it's tough to constantly fill the audience with something new, and tougher to toss in twists. But you only need one good twist. The one that give you chills.

Think about Eragon. Why did that book totally rock? Because everything that happened in it was completely new. You got to see an entire new and exciting universe. Each chapter had something different. I haven't read the second one (shame!) but it would be hard to surpass the first in ultimate involvement. You know that thing in english class, the whole 'rising action' mountain looking thing? Yeah, that's the one. I think it's more like a bunch of wobbly hills. Action, drop. Some downtime backstory. Action, drop. Little more downtime. It matches with the whole ADD thing we've got dealing with TV and internet entertainment. Wait a minute, why am I saying this?

To couple with my lack of creativity and patience comes my medicore writing. Decent, but not great. I suppose I should read some more. I tend to absorb ideas and abilties by copying off of others. If I had the other component that I valued in writing and stories, I'd tell you a name for such a thing. Knowledge, that's another great aspect. I always like when there's some kind of interconnected backstory tossed into a story or a game or really anything. Just spices things up a bit.

And lastly comes the problem that I'm making up a story about a game, where I have very little control. Which makes it difficult to make any type of story, because my main characters could kick the bucket at any time, so an involving plot would totally end....well, everything. A tricky obstacle to get around, anyway.

Ok, now that my retrospective blah blah is over, I just want to say that I'll have more episodes coming soon, and I plan on spending a bit more time. I'm not working 10 hours a day anymore, and hopefully the next thing that I find to do will leave plenty of time for X-COM. Once I get the nerve to start up again. It should be great, hopefully I can finish it in a while. As always, thanks for reading.
